Cardoza Fine Art is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Brandon Araujo.

Brandon Araujo’s Kapton paintings present a cryptic physicality, their large-scale and subtly sarcophagus-like custom shapes project a sculptural presence offset by the strange play of light on and within their surface of Kapton, a film designed for high tech applications, aircraft, 3d printers, x-rays, and spacecraft. This amber material, tightly wrapped over an underlying impasto of caulk and spray paint, absorbs and reflects light. Because of this luminosity, the paintings seem to change before the eye. In the sense that Araujo abjures figuration or intentionally painterly habits, this is non-representational painting, but in another, very real way, these paintings are crawling with references. They are haunted with suggestions of space exploration, reptilian hides, ancient glyphs, and the movement of large bodies of water. Time seems to be trapped within them.
