B. Anele is a trans-disciplinary artist that likes to explore and mix mediums without boundaries. Anele makes wearable art objects or garments to make art more accessible and not confined to walls and museums, rather inviting you to touch the art and participate with your body. “I like the idea that I can become a part of someone else’s expression,” said B. Anele. Their creations explore uncharted territories, creating a fulfilling space for those who are marginalized. They make artwork and garments that are raw, expressive, unbounded and unapologetic. In 2015, Anele started “8 palms” to exhibit the pieces they were making as art. They have shown work in both group and solo shows in Houston, Austin, Oakland, Los Angeles, Portland and New York City. In 2021, Anele opened Blue Rose Gallery in their hometown of Houston, TX, a gallery featuring black walls instead of adhering to the white cube tradition. The gallery is in an old home that Anele personally renovated. The space is used not only for shows but performances and the gallery does not take commissions from artists to nurture a space of free creative expression.
