Cardoza Fine Art is pleased to announce “Good Egg Bad Seed”, an exhibition of new works by
Alika Herreshoff.
Alika Herreshoff’s biomorphic abstractions find their roots in the graphic flatness and high-
keyed palettes of Pop, Color Field, comic books, and cartoons. Employing rubbery contours
and a psychedelic sense for color, Herreshoff creates paintings that are nonsensically comic and
surreally suggestive. The bulbous shapes and glyphic lines in his work coyly allude to the
contours of speech bubbles, the backs of heads, and the eyes of animate creatures – as if the
paint, color, and shapes themselves have become traces of the lunatic subjectivity of the
cartoon. With Good Egg Bad Seed Herreshoff presents a new series of paintings abundant with
impish shapes and fields of effluvia, continuing to play out the tension between the phenomenal
experience of color, shape, and scale, and the nonsensical indications of animate life. In these
flatlands, shapes and colors seem to be germinating, reproducing, yet stunted in a state of
potential, oozing along in an abstract world.
